The idea of starting a user community came some time ago in a chatroom. The shift to virtual meetings this spring made it harder to connect with other people and tell them in real life about the projects we are working on and the technologies we are using.

This lack of interaction made us think about possibilities to share content and connect people in Switzerland with the Oracle ecosystem around the world. Because especially in Switzerland there are many knowledgeable people we don’t hear from enough. And at the same time, it’s hard for beginners to enter the data ecosystem because we lack easily accessible information.

A big concern was that we see fantastic input at meetups, events, and as blog posts on the web that is not shared and distributed enough. We equally want to hear about experiences from the younger generation in the data ecosystem as well as the viewpoints from more senior engineers. That’s why we want to create a community that focuses on connecting people and creates a stream of diverse and exciting tech content for the community members.

This was the dawn of SOUC – the Swiss Oracle User Community.

One of our goals is to provide introductory content into data topics to enable people to learn things on their own or together with others and improve their knowledge outside their current expertise.
